A lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery is an advanced technology that uses lithium ions as a critical component of its electrochemistry. There are many different types of Lithium batteries that cover a broad range of chemistries and are mainly dependent on application type. The REMCO Lithium range utilises LiFePO4 (LFP), known as Lithium Iron Phosphate and is continuing to gain popularity due to being the safest form of lithium. LFP is perfect for applications where safety and longevity are desired but doesn’t need an extremely high energy density. LFP or lithium iron is also a nontoxic material, while lithium-ion (Li-ion) is hazardous in nature and not considered safe. The key benefits of Lithium batteries over more traditional chemistries such as lead-acid include higher energy density (lower weight), increased cycle life, larger tolerance to depth of discharge, improved charge rates and better efficiency meaning more solar power is able to be drawn and used.
